On April 16, the Institute of Asian-Pacific Business Law (IAPBL) hosted a talk by Dr. Jiaying Jiang, “Accelerating the Fintech Revolution: Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and Central Bank Digital Currency.” There were 28 attendees from Richardson, Hawaii’s legal community and state government, and other law schools. Dr. Jiang discussed the definitions and general technology behind blockchains. She provided use cases for digital currencies by central banks, private banks, and law enforcement. The talk evaluated the regulatory landscape of the current cryptocurrency industry, the future of cryptocurrency regulation, and central bank digital currencies (CBDC’s) in the US, EU, and China. The talk was moderated by first-year Richardson student Chloe Berridge ’24. |
